Synopsis:
1 crush on your best friend +
1 gorgeous, scheming new girl +
1 Mathletics competition =
1 big mess
SIMPLIFY.
Ashley Price doesn’t have much in life after being bullied so hard she had to leave her old school to live with her aunt and uncle in Pittsburgh. But the camera she borrowed from her best friend and secret crush Brendan, and her off the charts math abilities, make things a lot more bearable. Plus, since Brendan is the captain, making the school Mathletes team should be easy.
But when gorgeous new girl Sofia rolls in and steals Brendan, Ashley's place on the team, and her fragile foothold on the Mansfield Park Prep social totem pole, it’s on. Sofia is everything Ashley left her old school to escape. The only thing Ashley didn’t count on is Sofia’s sexy twin brother Vincent.
Vincent is not only the hottest boy in school, he’s charming, sweet, and he’s got his eye on Ashley. He’s also not taking no for an answer. There's no real reason Ashley shouldn't like Vincent, but with the
battle lines being drawn between her and Sofia, Ashley’s not sure which side he’s on. Or which side she wants him to be on.
She does know Sofia is trouble with a capital T, and she’s determined to make Brendan see it.
SOLVING FOR EX is a YA contemporary romance that remixes Mansfield Park as Clueless meets Mean Girls in a crazy mix of high school society, mathletic competition, and teenage romance.

MY REVIEW:

When Patricia first shared the synopsis of this book with me, I was intrigued by the synopsis, but when I got o the part that it said it was a remaking of Mansfield Park, I was like I NEED THIS BOOK NOW! Luckily, Leigh Ann was super sweet and agreed to allow us to host her and share her story with our FFBC family. Since I am a fan of all things Jane Austen, I already had an idea of how the story was going to go, but Leigh Ann's writing still kept me engaged and turning the page with desperation to figure out what was going to happen next.

The story is about a girl named Ashley who is secretly in love with her best friend Brendan. They are perfect together in every way, the are both ridiculously intelligent, understand each other in ways the no one else can and have so  much ambitions for the future. Ashley knows that no one gets her besides Brendan, but for some reason when it comes to seeing what is right in front of him, he is oblivious as any 15 year old boy.

To make matters worse, in comes twins Sofia and Vincent. Sofia is immediately drawn to Brendan and Vincent to Ashley. As Brendan is still oblivious to Ashley's feelings and Vincent starts attempting more and more to win Ashley over, these twins may be what it takes to tear this friendship apart.

I really felt for Ashley through out this book. She positively aches for Brendan but is scared to tell him how she truly feels. But seeing  Brendan start getting closer to Sofia it starts tearing Ashley apart. I think any girl can relate to what Ashley is going through and as Ashley's heart broke mine broke with hers.

Even though Sofia and Vincent were quite the pair, the person who I found myself yelling at the most was Brendan. He did and said things that frustrated the crap out of me. There were so many times where I wanted to reach into the book and grab him by the shoulders and say OPEN YOUR EYES!!!!! But alas as it is fiction, I couldn't. The ending was bitter sweet and I too like other readers would loved to seen more. Leigh Ann if you are reading this short story or a novella please :)

Almost every review you will probably read about this book you will hear about the super funny and super cute math equations. Boy I have always hated math, but I found myself trying so hard to decipher the cute little math equations. I think everyone should give this story a try. It was is an enjoyable read that will leave you with a smile on your face from page 1.

Raised on comic books and classic novels, Leigh Ann developed an early love of science fiction and literature. As an adult, she rediscovered her love for not only reading, but also writing the types of fiction that enchanted her as a teen. Solving for Ex was born of her love for Jane Austen’s classics, and how they taught her that love stories could be funny and wickedly smart.

Leigh Ann, her husband, and four children live in Columbus, Ohio. When she’s not immersed in the world of fiction, you can find her obsessing over the latest superhero movie or using her kids as an excuse to go out for ice cream (again.)

Thank you to our beloved team for making this event possible & to Leigh Ann for being so awesome and writing this amazing story.
